Continue to Semliki National Park for a primate walk, cultural interactions with the Batwa people, and a visit to the Sempaya hot springs before flying back to Entebbe.

Itinerary

The journey begins with a scenic flight from Entebbe International Airport to Kasese Airstrip, where the beauty of Uganda’s landscapes unfolds from above. Upon arrival, a safari guide will meet and drive you through the rolling countryside to Kibale National Park, home to an astonishing 13 species of primates. After settling into your lodge, the adventure begins in the evening with a nocturnal walk in Kibale Forest. This unique experience, starting at dusk, offers a rare glimpse into the nightlife of the jungle, where creatures like bush babies, pottos, civets, and tree hyraxes become active under the cover of darkness. The walk, guided by expert rangers, provides an opportunity to hear the mysterious calls of the wild, making for an unforgettable first night in the forest.

The second day is dedicated to an extraordinary chimpanzee habituation experience, a full-day adventure that goes beyond a typical trek. After an early breakfast, you will head to Kanyanchu Visitor Center, where researchers and rangers will brief you before you venture into the dense forest in search of wild chimpanzees. Unlike standard chimpanzee trekking, which allows only one hour with the chimps, habituation enables you to spend an entire day observing them. Witnessing these intelligent primates forage, groom, play, and communicate in their natural habitat is both thrilling and educational. As you walk through the ancient rainforest, you may also encounter other wildlife, including black-and-white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and various bird species. After a long and rewarding day, you will return to your lodge for relaxation and dinner.

After breakfast, the journey continues with a drive to Semliki National Park, an untouched paradise nestled in the Albertine Rift Valley. The drive is scenic, offering breathtaking views of tea plantations, rolling hills, and the expansive rift valley. Upon arrival, you will visit the Sempaya Hot Springs, one of Semliki’s most fascinating natural wonders. These hot springs, locally believed to have healing powers, are a must-see attraction, where boiling geysers shoot up steam as high as two meters into the air.

The afternoon is spent with the Batwa community of Ntandi, where you will engage in a cultural experience that provides insight into their ancient forest-dwelling traditions. The Batwa, once hunter-gatherers in the forests of Uganda, share their stories, dances, and survival techniques, offering a glimpse into their deeply rooted connection with nature. After this enriching experience, you will retire to your lodge for the night.

The fourth day begins with an early breakfast before heading back into the wild for a primate walk in Semliki Forest. This walk offers another opportunity to explore Uganda’s rich biodiversity, as you trek through the towering trees in search of rare primate species. Semliki is home to a variety of primates, including the black-and-white colobus monkey, grey-cheeked mangabey, red-tailed monkey, and the elusive De Brazza’s monkey, a species more commonly found in Central Africa. As you navigate through the forest trails, you will also have the chance to spot over 400 bird species, making it a paradise for birdwatchers. After the walk, you will return to the lodge for an evening of relaxation.

The final day begins with a leisurely breakfast before embarking on the return journey to Kasese Airstrip, where a scheduled flight will take you back to Entebbe International Airport. As the plane ascends, you will have a final aerial view of Uganda’s stunning landscapes, marking the end of an incredible primate safari. The memories of chimpanzees in Kibale, the mystical hot springs of Semliki, and the rich cultural encounters with the Batwa people will stay with you long after the trip concludes.
