Itinerary

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, meet your safari guide for a briefing before setting off on a 2.5-hour drive to Akagera National Park. Along the way, pass through the beautiful Rwandan countryside and the Rwamagana region, home to the Inyambo cows, a symbol of Rwandan culture. Arrive in the evening for relaxation, dinner, and overnight at your selected resort.

Begin your day with an early morning game drive, exploring the savannah landscapes of Akagera. Keep an eye out for elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, lions, leopards, antelopes, and more. After this 3-4 hour safari, return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.

In the afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Ihema, home to hippos, Nile crocodiles, and a variety of water birds. This offers a tranquil yet thrilling way to experience the wildlife up close. Retire to your resort for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, set off on a 5-hour drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park, stopping along the way to explore Rwanda’s rich cultural heritage.

  • Visit the Ethnographic Museum in Butare, home to over 100,000 artifacts that showcase Rwandan history and traditions.
  • Tour the King’s Palace in Nyanza, a reconstruction of Rwanda’s traditional royal residence, complete with long-horned Inyambo cows.

Continue to Nyungwe, arriving in the evening for relaxation, dinner, and overnight at your selected lodge.

Start the day with chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest, one of Africa’s most biologically diverse rainforests. Encounter chimpanzees swinging through the trees, listen to their vocal calls, and observe their social behaviors. This trek lasts between 2-5 hours and includes one full hour with the chimps.

After lunch, take part in the Nyungwe Canopy Walk, a suspended bridge adventure offering panoramic views of the forest, wildlife, and birdlife.

Return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner, and overnight.

After breakfast, embark on a full-day scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park (approx. 7-hour drive). Enjoy breathtaking views of Lake Kivu, the Congo-Nile Divide, and Rwanda’s famous "land of a thousand hills".

Arrive at your selected lodge in the evening for dinner and relaxation.

Begin your once-in-a-lifetime gorilla trekking experience!

  • Arrive at Volcanoes National Park headquarters at Kinigi for a briefing at 8 AM.
  • Be assigned a gorilla family and embark on the trek, which can take 30 minutes to several hours, depending on their location.
  • Spend one hour with the gorillas, observing their behaviors, interactions, and taking incredible photographs.

After lunch and some rest, explore the Musanze Caves, a 2 km-long cave system that dates back 65 million years, historically used as a shelter during conflicts.

Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, embark on a 2-3 hour drive back to Kigali. If time allows, visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a powerful tribute to the 1994 Rwandan genocide.

Your guide will drop you at Kigali International Airport or your preferred location, marking the end of your unforgettable Rwanda safari.
